The Breakbeat Poets: A Workshop

anc_lit-breakbeatpoets-teaser+copyThe BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop (Haymarket, 2015) is the first poetry anthology by and for the Hip-Hop generation, celebrating a break with the past while honoring of tradition(s) a
nd creating an undeniable body expanding the canon for the fresher.

Join BreakBeat Poets Kevin Coval and Malcolm London for “It’s Where You’re At,” an afternoon cypher-style workshop based on the aesthetics and cultural context of the RC Cola Plant, Wynwood, and Miami graffiti culture.
Participants will be given writing prompts; learn more about this cultural moment in their city from a teaching artist at Path to Hip-Hop, a Miami-based organization that “uses hip-hop culture and education to advance scholarship (academic achievement), community involvement, leadership and entrepreneurship in underserved communities; and then circle up cypher-style to share what they’ve written.

All ages, but geared toward high school age students.
