ABOUT Pang!

Pang! is an evening of three short plays based on the oral histories of families hungering for change in Los Angeles, Miami and Cedar Rapids. We perform the plays as if we are a radio theater company performing a live broadcast, amidst a forest of microphones, sound effects props and musical instruments. Pang!’s scenarios
+ From Miami: We experience the underserved neighborhood of Overtown through the eyes and ears of seven-year-old Terrence, who lives there with his mother, father and little sister. The shooting death of his young friend and his own subsequent near-death experience forces Terrence to confront a complex world outside the bosom of his family. He sews seeds of hope for his parents as he fantasizes his own scenarios of strength and integrity.
+ From Cedar Rapids: A family who makes a harrowing escape from war-torn Burundi and resettles as refugees in Eastern Iowa, which proves traumatic in its own ways;
+ From Los Angeles: A single mom and her nine children who are swindled into foreclosure on the home that has been owned by the family for over 65 years.
