PATH HIP HOP SUMMER ACADEMY
The PATH HipHop Summer Academy trains the next generation of Hip Hop artists, leaders, scholars and entrepreneurs. Youth ages 13 – 18 spend the summer learning creative, technical and entrepreneurial skills directly from Hip Hop industry professionals, practitioners and pioneers. In addition to the 4 main artistic elements of Hip Hop: DJing (Music & Technology), Emceeing (Creative Writing & Music), B-boying/girling (Dance) and Writing (Visual/Urban Art), PATH teaches the foundations of Hip Hop history and philosophy. The experience encourages teamwork, improved self-esteem, critical thinking, leadership and the application of Hip Hop’s “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” attitude to achieving one’s personal, professional and educational goals.
PATH TO SERVICE CHALLENGE
The PATH to Service Challenge reframes service learning by offering an outlet for youth to create meaningful works that are in the interest of the common good. The youth create messaging targeting their peers (teenagers). The projects incorporate HipHop to raise social awareness and foster interest around some of the critical issues facing their generation, their communities and their world.
PATH Education Programs (PEP)
NEW! TEACHART (Transforming Education and Curriculum: HipHop Art Revitalizes Teaching) TEACHART (TA) helps K-12 educators and youth service providers integrate HipHop and the arts into their work. This ongoing professional development series provides training in the 4 main artistic elements of HipHop (DJing, MCing, Bboying/gilring and Urban/Street Art). Sessions are facilitated by HipHop educators and taught by local and international HipHop artists. Participants learn HipHop art skills and knowledge through interactive workshops, participatory training and collaborative teaching experiences in their respective schools and community centers. The pedagogical outcomes include standards-based unit plans and compelling delivery of content that actively engages youth. The creative outcomes include products like murals, theme songs, mixtapes and dances that reflect the spirit of Miami’s diverse communities.

PATH to CLASS
PATH to CLASS combines art, HipHop culture and education in the classroom. We offer interactive learning experiences that synthesize core academic skills, content knowledge with creativity and critical thinking using the Hip Hop elements (DJ, MC, Bboy/Bgirl and Urban Art). The elements of Hip Hop are utilized both as instructional tools as well as content enhancers. PATH to CLASS can be adapted to K – 12 curriculum aligned with National and Florida Sunshine State Standards. Lessons are designed to address the needs of general and special education students with an emphasis on multiple learning styles. The integration of art in the curriculum subsidizes the limited arts programming offered in many public schools.
Note: PATH also offers an integrated hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) component that inspires creative self-discovery and builds STEM proficiency through the arts.

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
PATH collaborates with schools and community organizations to enhance after-school programs. PATH is committed to providing youth with pro-social, non-violent, drug free recreational alternatives. Our curriculum includes 1) Hip Hop 101: Hip Hop History & Philosophy; 2) The Elements of Hip Hop, including B-boying/B-girling (Dance), DJing (Music & Technology), Emceeing (Creative Writing & Music) and Writing (Visual/Urban Art) and 3) a closing showcase of original student works performed and produced by participating youth. PATH RITES OF PASSAGE (PROPs)
This workshop is offered as a co-ed experience or separately as PATH to Manhood (for males) and PATH to Womanhood (for females). PROPs addresses the challenges that youth face transitioning into adulthood. Rites of passage experiences guide youth to critically assess themselves, their roles in their families, communities and the world. They learn life skills that enable them to navigate life’s challenges and become successful, self-actualized, self-aware and purpose driven adults. Key issues treated are goal setting, higher education, school to work transition, finance management, investments, entrepreneurship, building positive relationships and strengthening interpersonal skills.
PATH to LIFE CONCERT SERIES
This series is pure Hip Hop edutainment (education + entertainment). The live performances incorporate urban art, music and dance. The shows encourage audiences to make positive life choices. They are ideal for community events, FCAT prep & pep rallies, Homecoming games, Proms, festivals, school dances, half-time entertainment, workshops and more! PATH TO LIFE is an innovative way to boost morale, school spirit and community pride.
WORKSHOPS / LECTURES
PATH offers interactive workshops and multimedia presentations that draw on the practical and theoretical expertise of members of our network in an effort to connect our audiences with “real” people doing “real” work. Participants come away with knowledge and skill sets that are transferrable to non-Hip Hop industries. Our workshops range from technical, interpersonal, entrepreneurial to creative. Facilitators demonstrate sensitivity and respect for various cultures, genders, age groups, physical abilities and religious belief systems.
INTERNSHIPS
The PATH Internship Program (PIP) helps young adults gain experience and explore career opportunities in Hip Hop related industries. Interns will develop skills and competencies through work with professional musicians, promoters, producers, engineers, instructors, non-profit staff, writers, designers, video producers, muralists, dancers, thespians and more. Assignments are customized to ensure that interns and mentors are matched effectively. The goal is to establish long-term relationships between adults committed to helping a young person transition into adulthood via career exploration.
